The metabolic syndrome affects millions of people – often without them even knowing it. In this interview, Professor Hans Georg Classen, Chairman of the Society for Biofactors (GfB), explains why biofactors such as vitamins and minerals play a key role in metabolic processes and how risk factors can be positively influenced through targeted measures.

Zinc plays an important role in the prevention and treatment of acne vulgaris. The essential biofactor has an anti-inflammatory effect, regulates sebum production and supports the skin barrier.

Vitamin D influences the regulation of estrogen and progesterone through its vitamin D receptors in various tissues. Estrogen is also involved in the regulation of vitamin D metabolism. Studies show that postmenopausal women may have lower vitamin D levels, as the decline in estrogen affects the expression of vitamin D receptors.
